The town of Belle Glade and its surrounding area are often referred to as “Muck City”. This is because of the large amount of muck that is found in the area. The pro of this muck is that this is where sugar cane grows. The sugar cane mill of the “Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative” (SCGC) is located in this very town. This makes its economy considerably good. The sugar cane mill provides jobs each harvesting season, as it employs 550 people.
The public schools in this town are considerably good as they set out to attain academic success. The public schools in this town include five elementary schools: Gove Elementary, Belle Glade Elementary, Glade View Elementary, Pioneer Park Elementary, and Sellew Belle Glade Excel Charter School; one middle school: Lake Shore Middle School; and one high school: Glades Central High School. Aside from these public institutions, the town is also home to two private schools, namely Glades Day School and Lakeside Academy. Belle Glade also has its very own campus of Palm Beach State College, which makes it accessible for anyone who wants to go to university.
